Funds this year are being raised to help 3 families battling this terrible disease along with our friends at the Cancer Care Foundation and to establish an Art Therapy program for cancer patients and their families.
- Cody Neilson is almost 4 years old, suffering from a rare blood
disease called Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis or LCH, which can be
debilitating and life-threatening. He has shown bravery throughout his
short life, coping with constant chemotherapy and steroid treatments, and
more than 15 related surgeries and procedures. Cody's mom has had to stay
home from work the past four years in order to take care of him and his dad
has taken a considerable pay cut at work. These circumstances, combined
with mounting medical bills, have financially strained the Neilsons who
struggle on a daily basis to make ends meet. (read more here)
- Sharon Charalambous – The mother of two little children – 4 yr. old Samantha and 7 yr. old Jonathan, Sharon lost her brave 2-year battle with a very rare form of cancer called "Leiomyosarcoma" on April 1, 2010. The family had recently declared bankruptcy because of the enormous financial strain of her care. We're hoping to honor Sharon's incredible legacy and offset some of their costs with funds from this year's event.
- Karen Burde is the mother of a 19 year old daughter who is termed a “medical miracle”. Paralyzed from the neck down, Stephanie has needed constant care and supervision all her life. 6 months ago, Karen was diagnosed with breast cancer. Husband and father, Tim, is currently out of work, taking care of both his wife and daughter. Funds from our outing will help this family tremendously.
- The Cancer Care Foundation is a nonprofit organization that offers free counseling and support services to cancer patients and their loved ones. (click here to learn more about The Cancer Care Foundation)
- Sally’s Studio – Last year, we supported the family of Sally Gorney-Avila. Sadly, a week before our outing, Sally lost her valiant battle with cancer. This year, we’ll honor her memory and love of art by funding an Art Therapy program for cancer sufferers and their families.
